Downtown Albuquerque on a Saturday night, the stuff that most episodes of COPS are made of! Fortunately (unfortunately?), we did not have any cross dressing truck drivers interfere with our fantastic night of quizzing. 9 teams graced us this evening and battled it out at the lovely Dublin's Pub. We were even blessed to have Geeks Who Drink's own Kent and Eric the Jewish Viking come out and batter the competition!
Quiz tonight started with a round on breakfast and had a lot of trickeration. I love when I get to talk about Milk Seas, Crunchy Nuts, Black people as mascots and Shit on a Shingle! We moved right into the audio round that was made for Steve Martin. I am very surprisedat how many teams knew the Eli Young Band and of course, did not know Iggy Pop. Our speed round tonight had ourbquizzlings naming NCAA football programs with the most "official" wins of all time. Yes, if this question was asked about 2 months ago, you all would have gotten Penn State right, but when you let a dirty old man work for you and ignore the fact that he is molesting kids, you get permanently erased from history. At least you did not get the SMU kiss of death Penn State. The next round was all about Disney. Yes, I am pretty certain the Southern Baptist Convention is still pissed that Disney has a "day" for the gays, but I am 100% sure they will never forgive them for allowing "the blacks" in the park, or so thought team D.C.!!! If there were some way to make the religious "right" just see how fucking wrong they are..... Our visual round had subverted state signs and our following round covered Deans, Beans, Music & Fruit. I found out all of you eat way to much at Chipotle and did not watch nearly enough Strawberry Shortcake while growing up. The second audio round had clips from law enforcement television shows and I will be straight up with you: WATCH LONGMIRE!!!!!!! It is a fantastic show! Our final round of random knowledge featured Scheherazade, Vasco Da Gama, Bazooka Joe and the delicious Christopher Sarantakos. Mmmmmmmmmmmm....TAKOS!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who came out last night. Thanks to the lovely Pedro, Jewel and Miranda for rocking the service (as always) at Dublin's.
In the end, 2 guys I hold dear to my heart (and paycheck) fair and squarely took away the victory! They got 14 points on round 2, used the joker, and never looked back! Our Princes of the Geek Universe this evening: Imitation is the Highest Form of Disappointing Kent & Eric!
Congrats to "Feeding Rosie O'Donnell; It's a Trap!" for getting second.
A little PSA here: There IS free parking at the bank on Gold and 3rd (across from Burt's).
Check you all next week and don't forget, October 18th is the All Simpson's quiz. Check it out HERE.
Love you, night night

What a doosy of a night! It was our last Monday night at Dublin's, but that is ok cause now I get to host the first Saturday quiz in all of Albuquerque! I know, I know. Some of you are kinda negative but I can assure you: I will be there! So come on down and have your usual great time! Enought about the future, let's discuss the right now (or about an hour ago...). We had 5 smoking teams bust on downto Dublin's this fine evening and it was a bitter battle until the end...unless you consider the team that took first jokered round 2 and only missed one...then is was more of a battle for second place. I played "The Daves I Know" from the Kids in The Hall, but it was no help to our quizzlings. Please tell me when David Spade appeared on the Kids in the Hall? REALLY!!!!! You hurt my feelings on that one and I will be crushing your head the next time that I see you from the right distance....
Congratulations to Mary for being the only person in the bar for nailing the Joey McIntyre song...Pretty sure I should hang her photo up on the wall for that one...We had a speed round this evening and you all did very well, but remember, it's not the size that matters, it's all about the girth. The visual round was wonderlust and round 6 was a mystery round that all added up to Cameron Crowe. THIS is still my favorite movie. Round 7 was the second audio round and it was Timers on TV. If you have 5 minutes, check out this CLIP. Round 8 was the traditional round of Random Knowledge. What do Russel Crowe, Loch Lomond and Big Brother have in common? NOT A DAMN THING!!!!!!!! Except they all made guest cameos in round 8.
Thanks to everyone who came out tonight and has supported the Monday night quiz from the beginning.
It is still going to be a blast, and now you can stay and have way more drinks! Love to all and congrats to "A Couple of “Mad Men” decided to start “Breaking Bad” In Your “Homeland”" for taking home the gold, getting a thumbs up and scoring 100 points and bringing home the victory!
see you all Saturday

Well Howdy Ho folks! Another great night wrapped up in the books for Geeks Who Drink at Dublin's! Thanks to all the regular faithfuls who decided to come out tonight instead of going to the State Fair and indulging on deep fried butter, giant turkey legs and whatever other items are on the "Diabetes for Me" menu. For those who did come out, we had Football, Drunks and a couple new formats for some of our rounds this evening!
The night started with a round on queens. I just could not believe "Mean Girls" is considered a comedy. Of course, there is not really a category called "steaming pile of shit", but there should be. We moved into the audio round about broken records and sorry, but all the songs came from scratched cds!!! You still knocked it out of the park! Round 3 was a new version of the "Say When" round, just prepared better so the dicks of the world that always stopped one clue in and pissed everyone else off could not intervene here. Most of you did very well and this is where the gap in the standings took a major turn. We moved into the fourth round and I am sitting here now trying to say "existentialist" and just can't do it! "Some French guy" just rolls off the tongue so much easier! And you are sooooooooooo welcome for me playing "I don't know much, but I know I love you"!!! Your visual round this evening was brought to you by Transformers, Blade Runner, Voltron and several other robot-tastic movies! We followed it up with a round on former British colonies. Kudos to the team that thought Dave Matthews was from India. He is DAVE MATTHEWS, famous musician, not Dave on line one trying to help you with your Capital One card!
Round 7 was another new feature this evening. It was still an audio round, but it was a memorization round. I played a clip from Monty Python's The Holy Grail, then asked 8 questions on it. You guys did very well and if you could not hear it, it is the Holy Grail and you should have it memorized!!!!!!!! You call yourselves Geeks?!?!?!?! The last round had guest appearances by Jesus, Herbal Essence, Jones Soda and Foxboro Hot Tubs.
In the end, there could be only one: Said Dave Coulier to Alanis Morrisette: “Suck. It. Off” They burned the new round 3 and did not look back all night! Congratulations team!
In Second place this evening was The Owls Are Not What They Seem. Happy birthday to Vanessa and welcome back Allen and Ellen, even if it is just for one night!
Thanks to the lovely staff of Dublin's for busting their butts for you as always!!!!!!!
Thanks to the new teams that came out, I hope it was enjoyable for you!
Don't forget to check out the Facebook page for your chance for some free grub or drink (HERE).
See you quizzlings next week!
