Tonight was an excellent show of what the world could use a little more of: love, compassion, boobies, and playing with balls.  Our winner by far (and somewhat by default) tonight was team “It’s Lonely at the Top” and they chose their name wisely.  As the only team to show up on time, they were slated as tonight’s favorites.  Being four rounds ahead of team “Colorado/We Showed Up Late” (both very descriptive names), team “It’s Lonely at the Top” had an easy time staying in the lead all night, and even gaining some favor with the quizmaster.

As had been the standard with my predecessor, questions that could not be answered we’re encouraged to be filled in with creative depictions of male genitalia.  I love you Taylor, but that ain’t me.  Which is why had team “Lonely at the Top” NOT been in the lead all night, I certainly would have wanted to give them extra points for simply drawing (and labeling, in case I didn’t get it, thanks, by the way, for assuming I’ve never seen any in my life…) a nice set of “boobies” in place of Judge Hodgeman.  In my opinion, that WAS a correct answer.  Hodgeman is kind of a boob.

However, for only two team members “Lonely at the Top” pretty much rocked it tonight (lack of competition aside).  Between the two of them they were able to amass a quite respectable score, and did incredibly well on all of the rounds that were not themed after genitalia or disgusting sexual acts.  Good for you.

The vibe got even better tonight when the winner’s actually forfeited their oh-so-awesome winnings (an El Farol t-shirt!) to the team in second place.  No good deed goes un-noticed when I can help it.  So I hooked them up with a pint glass.  See?  That’s the awesomeness that is Geeks Who Drink.  Maybe a little more ball play and some random acts of kindness can actually make a difference.

I’d like to give a HUGE thank you to the guy at the bar who must have written this damn quiz, because he knew EVERY answer (as I could tell because of my awesome lip reading skills, er, skillz) but didn’t shout out a one.  Thank you random genius.  Why team “Colorado” didn’t enlist you I have no idea.  Come by next week!

So let me start this blog by saying that I moved out of my apartment yesterday.  Let me finish THAT thought by saying that I have not yet moved IN to anywhere.  Needless to say, I have some things I need to attend to.

In that spirit, and the spirit of tonight’s quiz being SUPER-RIDICULOUSLY-EASY (according to my quiz takers, as well as myself).  I’m going to make this blog a short one.  I know, you’ll miss my witty humor and cynical take on humanity, but I’ll be back next week for a more thorough investigation of why you bipeds do what you do…

So let’s get it started.

Round one tonight was entitled “Duh!”, and while I think most people were expecting a 90’s trivia round at that point, what we had instead was an uncannily easy round.  I have no idea how NOBODY could tell me what year the war of 1812 ended after 32 months…  I guess at least I know I don’t have any cheaters in the house.  Either that or people have just flat out forgotten about the awesome device once used by human kind to extrapolate numerical data known as a calculator.  Or math in general.

Ok, beside that the quiz takers actually did very well tonight including team “Flash in the Pan”, who assumed I would start half an hour late (do I already have an MO?) and as such missed the first four rounds and still impressed with the remaining four.

All castration, Taylor Swift, and other things that make my balls hurt aside tonight was a good night that ended with a definite winner.  The “Peeps Diorama Contest Runner Ups” did their marshmallowy best and apparently are better at knowing stuff than building dioramas out of Easter candy.  No “running-up” tonight for this winning team.  In a somewhat close second place, and with a super cool name, “Fox Force Three” almost got extra points from me for simply writing Third Eye Blind instead of Presidents of the United States of America down in round 2.  As big a fan as I am (hey, this is called GEEKS who drink, don’t hate) I couldn’t award a point, as it was certainly a wrong answer.  Just know I wanted to.

Ok, that’s it.  I have to find a good public restroom to brush my teeth in now.  Any suggestions?

I'm proud of my Santa Fe quiz takers. Not only did they show up en masse tonight, but they KILLED it on the quiz! Now, that being said, I have some criticism as well.

I've never had to kick someone out of a quiz (and probably never will, as I'm not a large or super tough guy and physically wouldn't be able to in most cases). Tonight though, tested me.

There are only a handful of rules (less than that if you write them down reeeeeeeally small) by which ALL players, and hopefully any bystanders should comply. NOT SHOUTING OUT THE ANSWERS is one of those rules. Come to think of it... Maybe that's why the teams killed it tonight...

Note to annoying bystander: Dude, great, you know every question and have a loud obtrusive voice. Awesome. Why not put both to work and actually ask me for an answer packet so you don't ruin it for everyone else!

Ok. Now on to the quiz.

Although in all fairness there may not be much difference, I was surprised to see that the competitors tonight were all much more aware of which comedian played which role than which US House Reps are currently in office. Like I said though, Isn't it really the same thing?

For whatever reason, the teams tonight nailed the visual round, while failing miserably on the 3rd round. It's good to know that our citizens can recall comedians' roles easier than they can their US Representatives...

Anyway, ON TO ZOMBIES!!!! Seriously, it's been way too long since a zombie round. Which is unfortunate. If I had things MY way, every round would be a zombie round. I mean, there is just so much confusion out there regarding zombies. Maybe I should just start a class at the community college. Zombie Survival 101. Any takers? I bet I could even get you credits for it.

Ok, my personal highlight of the night was seeing the answer sheets for round six. Especially one team in particular (who shall remain unnamed). I just had to let out an audible laugh when I realized the ONLY question on that round that said team got right was... Jenna Jameson. I know what kind of “research” you do before a quiz...

On that note, everybody had fun, some teams won some stuff. A good night all in all.

I do need to say though, “writers” is technically not a wrong answer to Round 4's question regarding Pseudonyms. All the names mentioned are names of “writers” and “writers” itself begins with a different letter than what you might expect... Errorogenous zone anybody?

Eesh. Goodnight.
