Quiz Schedule
Tuesday nights at Luke's Icehouse in Beaumont, Texas
Robbi (Plucky, Robbizombie)

I'm a quiz mistress with a dash of sass.  I'm endowed with the gift of gab.  Add a microphone and an ice cold Lone Star and it's a recipe for quizzing madness!  I'm proud to be the original Quiz Master for Southeast Texas and I look forward to meeting all of you.  For fun I like training roller girls and poking dead stuff with sticks.  Come on out to the most fun you can have on a Tuesday.  Bring a friend, you're going to need one!

It was a true Christmas miracle.  There I was, minding my own business and an angel brought me cookies.  It was truly thoughtful and I am quite grateful.  Thank you Sarah.  Your kindness is sincerely appreciated.  Now that I've gushed... let's talk about the quiz.

Round 1: Oh Hy There... each answer will start with the letters HY.  Some of you missed the explanation on this round.  Others exploded right out of the gate with some nice scores.  I didn't realize that Hyundai didn't sell in the U.S. until 1986.  Seems like they have been around forever.  Round 2: Holes in Your House.  My lesson for you today is you can't make a housewife out of a ho.  Just some food for thought.  I love CCR.  They are so cool.  I was shocked at how many of you got the Cake cover... but then again, that guy does have a pretty distinct voice.  Good job!  Round 3: Brought to You by the Letter R and the Number 3... When you're done answering these questions, you will have used each base-10 digit exactly once.  Then things started to get a little ugly.  I cannot believe how hostile some of you got about Sesame Street.  Did you never watch the show?  It's about sharing and loving your quiz mistress.  Well, more or less anyway.  Didn't realize Muppets make you so grumpy.  Let's move on.  Round 4: Folk Tales, and Other Made-Up Shit.  I'm so excited that they are making a movie out of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.  My current favorite folk tale is Krampus.  If you aren't familiar with him, you should look it up.

Round 5: Ashes to Ashes... name the movie that the funeral scene is from.  The Royal Tenenbaums is such a wonderful film.  I love Wes Anderson.  Round 6: Eight Sensible Nights... In honor of Hanukkah, here's a round on Jewish culture and the number eight.  I had never heard the term "navel end of the brisket."  True story.  I love a good pastrami though.  It's just delicious.  Also, it should be noted that Beowulf is my favorite epic poem.  Just for your information.  Round 7: Santa, You Slut!... that's right Santa's a whore.  Name the artist covering that most material of Christmas carols, "Santa Baby."  This really is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I really tend to favor the Eartha Kitt version.  She's also my favorite Catwoman.  I don't care what anyone says.  Round 8: Random Knowledge.  Staples was one of the top three companies??  That surprises me.  I don't know that I've ever even been into a Staples store.

So the quiz came and went rather quickly tonight.  In the end, we had a tie for third and fourth between Asses To Asses and Fan Club.  After the smoke cleared from our tie breaker question... Asses to Asses took third.  Wall Of Voodoo had too many players tonight, so they split into two teams and they took the top two places.  Wow.  I hope that you all had as much fun as Steph and I.  If I don't see you beforehand, have a wonderful holiday. (Whichever one you celebrate.)  Until next time my quiz bunnies... baby, it's cold outside.

  Robbi xoxo

So lovely to have time with you all again last night.  I often think to myself how incredibly lucky I am to have you guys choose to come and spend your Tuesday evenings with me.  Let's talk some quiz business.

Round 1: Geez... Each answer will contain the letters G and Z.  We got to talk about lots of interesting facts in this round and we also found out that some of you are not the best spellers.  No worries.  I've been spelling is wrong my entire life as well.  Round 2: The Proto-Bjork... Name that song and artist that has inspired Yoko Ono to do her thing.  I will never understand how John Lennon could be assassinated and the gunman didn't have the humanity to take Yoko out at the same time.  She was right there!!  Enough of the rant... you guys did really well with this round.  Wall Of Voodoo pulled a perfect score and jokered.  When was the last time that you listened to Enigma?  It's been a while huh?  Round 3; Jose Canseco or Rob Gronkowski... The legendary A's slugger and the current Pats' tight end are two of ;the biggest dudebros in sports history.  I gave you a random fact and you have to tell me which one it is.  I would have loved to see Canseco fight Danny Bonaduce.  The comedy practically writes itself.  He could Jose could punch Danny and then quip, "C'mon get happy!"  Oh man!  That would be so awesome.  How in the hell did he shoot off his own finger?  Round 4: This Round Can't Save You... Each answer will have "saint" in it - but none of them are actual saints.  St. John's Wort is some amazing stuff.  I don't like having to use the scientific name for it though.

Round 5: Twice the Dead... name the movie or tv show that these gunslingers are from.  Wow.  Some great movies represented here. Boondock Saints is definitely in my top five.  I prefer Firefly over Serenity though.  You develop more of a relationship with the characters.  I want them to live... I want Wash to continue to be a leaf on the wind.  Sigh.  Now I'm depressed.  Round 6: I Geek, Therefore I Am... A quick, introspective round on philosophy.  How come the name Zarathurstra falls right off my tongue, but Zoroaster kills me.  Ugh.  But other than that, this round was not as kind to you guys either.  We got through it though and had some laughs.  This was a game changing round for some of you.  Round 7: Who's Walking in a Winter Wonderland... Identify the performer singing "Winter Wonderland."  I had no idea that this song had been covered so many times.  Wow.  The Eurythmics is my favorite version I think.  But Dean Martin always has a special place in my heart.  I love a good swankified Christmas song.  Maybe next week we'll do a Christmas playlist.  That would be so much fun.  Round 8: Random Knowledge!  I never realized that Bob Dylan is on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's."  I even own the vinyl.  Mind. Blown.

It was a tough quiz tonight for some of you.  If you are new to the quiz circle, this was a particularly rough first quiz to have.  Keep coming and you will get the hang of it.  Your winners last night were Wall Of Voodoo.  These guys are on a roll!  They were followed by Professors and Ich Bin Ein Bah Humbug.  It was some pretty tense competition.  We are really getting some rivalries going.  Can't wait to see what happens next week.  Until then my quiz bunnies... when a problem comes along, you must whip it.

A big thank you first and foremost goes to Stephanie for bailing me out when I couldn't cough my way through the quiz any longer!  She's such a trooper.  You guys are troopers too.  I would say that the weather last night was not the most conducive to a quiz but you guys came anyway and I appreciate that.

Round 1: Thirty Days of Kumquats... I'll name three things, you tell me the monthe we're meant to celebrate them.  Prostate health and ovarian cancer are in the same month as bourbon heritage??   Seems like smart planning to me.  Round 2: Deja Vu... name the artists only for these songs with the same title.  BWAHAHA!  Just when you think you know the game I swoop in and change it.  I'm like some kind of evil master mind.  I might be a genius of chaos.  All I do know is that I got to play NWA and Eddie Money in the same round.  That is a first for me.  Round 3: Play them off... you say you don't watch award shows, but apparently somebody does.  I'll give you two and a half minutes to name eight of the 10 most watched awards shows for the past year.  Wow, two different country music award shows?  I had no idea that even existed.  The most popular incorrect answer given was the Tony's.  I'll be honest, that is the one I watch.  Round 4: Pep It Up... a round on peppy things.  Starfox was such a great game.  Hats off to those of you that knew that Eddie Pepitone is on Conan frequently as a heckler.

Round 5: The Usual Sidekicks... name that henchman!  Emperor's New Groove is one of my favorite Disney movies ever!  Eartha Kitt plays the bad guy!  (She's also my favorite Catwoman, in case you were wondering.)  Now, where was I??  Oh yeah!  Round 6: Recently In Stuff... the everything is awful edition.  Are you guys going to watch that "Eaten Alive" show?  I'm on the fence about it.  I mean, yeah, it seems cruel... but at the same time, I'm curious.  Round 7: Pesci and Dumbledore Walk Into a Bar... John Williams made some awfully similar sounding scores for the first Home Alone and Harry Potter movies.  Name the movie from the clip.  I think you guys enjoyed a 50/50 shot on the audio round.  I never realized how close the music was in those movies either.  Of course, I haven't seen Home Alone in years.  I may have to dig it up somewhere.  Round 8: Random Knowledge.  Arnold's real name was Mitsumo Takahashi?  I had no idea.  After all the years I watched Fonzie and the gang, how did I not know that?  Did you know that Brooklyn has 2.6 million people in it?  Crazy stuff.

Well, another quiz is on the books.  After a minor repair to a score,  (sneaky Luke's Girls tried to joker three times.) your winners were as follows.  Wall of Voodoo took top honors.  They were followed by the Professors and Ich Bin Ein Handicapped respectively.  Thanks again to all of you that came out and played along.  Can't wait to see you all again next week.  Until then my quiz bunnies... don't stop thinking about tomorrow.

  Robbi xoxo
