Quiz Schedule
Tuesday nights at Luke's Icehouse in Beaumont, Texas
Robbi (Plucky, Robbizombie)

I'm a quiz mistress with a dash of sass.  I'm endowed with the gift of gab.  Add a microphone and an ice cold Lone Star and it's a recipe for quizzing madness!  I'm proud to be the original Quiz Master for Southeast Texas and I look forward to meeting all of you.  For fun I like training roller girls and poking dead stuff with sticks.  Come on out to the most fun you can have on a Tuesday.  Bring a friend, you're going to need one!

Well hello there!  So glad you took a moment to stop by my blog.  I was hoping you would.  Here's to another beautiful night for a quiz.  It may have been chilly in the courtyard.  But our vibe was nice and warm.  Well... let's face it, the heaters and firepits help.

Round 1: A Leftist History... A round on southpaws.  Speaking as a left handed person, I'm very glad that we are having this round.  I think it's time we left handed people stopped hiding ourselves.  Left handed people need to unite.  This was a pretty good round for most of you.  Round 2; Can't We Just Listen to "Alice's Restaurant" Again?... Name the original artists and titles for these terrible parody songs that will make you wish Thanksgiving hadn't been invented.  I love a parody round.  Don't you?  The parody of "Jumpin Jumpin" is probably my favorite.  I love stuffing.  Round 3: A Good Old-Fashioned Science True or False Round.  I gave you a 50'50 shot this round  Yes, dogs really can sweat.  Look up the word hemipene... it really does exist.  Round 4: Capital Letters... name that world capital and the answers all go in alphabetical order.  And here is where I would have really tanked if I had been playing.  Wow!  You guys are really a virtual plethora of knowledge.  How on Earth do you do it?  Bucharest?  Really?

Round 5: I'm Just Messin' With Ya... name the manipulitive character.  I don't think it's any secret that Hannibal Lecter is my favorite character in this round.  Anthony Hopkins is just the bee's knees.  If you've never seen him in Titus, you really should see if you can dig that flick up.  Amazing!  Round 6: Psycho Killer, qu'est-ce que c'est?... A round on that Hitchcock thing, murdering and junk, and also the French language.  Just in time for the holidays!  I love a good round on slasher movies that involves words that are incredibly difficult to pronounce.  Yes I prepped for this round.  All in all, I think it went fairly smoothly.  Vince Vaughn really was Norman Bates in the remake of Psycho.  Makes you look at Dodgeball a little differently doesn't it?  Round 7: West of Westeros... name the film or TV series featuring a "Game of Thrones" castmember.  I know that these are not your favorite rounds.  It was apparent from some of the scores.  But all in all, you faired much better than I anticipated.  How To Train Your Dragon 2 was pretty tricky.  I know, I'm a stickler.  Round 8: Random Knowledge!  I felt that this round was a little easier than usual.  I was trying to make ammends for Round 7.  I could not believe the top three grossing films for Jim Carrey.  You mean Ace Ventura was not on the list??  Unbelieveable!  I have only ever heard the words "hoi polloi" in the movie Hairspray with John Travolta.  Weird how that sticks out to me.

So, we wrapped the night with a come from behind victory.  We had lots of new quizzers tonight and I am proud of everyone's performance.  The Professors pulled a victory at the last minute.  They were followed by Wall of Voodoo and El Chupa Badger Gopher.  I know that I had a great time tonight and I hope you did as well.  Can't wait to see you all next week.  Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Until then my quiz bunnies... if we took a holiday, just some time to celebrate, just one day out of life, it would be, it would be so nice.

  Robbi xoxo

I was pleasantly surprised to see how many of you wanted to brave the cold last night just to play along with me.  The first few cold nights of the season are always a little hard on the numbers.  But I couldn't thank you more for coming out.  Now that I've stroked your ego, let's talk about the quiz.

Round 1: Stream of Conciousness... the last word of each answer will be the first word of the next answer.  Zooey Deschanel really does play the same character pretty much every time you see her on screen.  Seriously, think about it.  Watchmen has got to be one of my favorite super hero movies.  Check it out if you haven't already.  Round 2: Say What??  The most popular incorrect answer given... What's Going On?  The correct title of the song is What's Up?  Sorry to disappoint some of you.  Round 3: Hallo! Vee Are Ze Bad Guys... not counting occupied and/or puppet states, at some point in the Second World War there were ten sovereign nations that either belonged to the Axis Powers or were fighting for the same cause.  Three in Asia, six in Europe, one in both.  You had 2 1/2 minutes to name any 8 of them.  I don't even really want to talk about this round.  I know that most of you were displeased with your performance... you should be.  Teehee.  Round 4: The Magical Fruit... yay beans!  Have you seen the meme going around the internet about spider eggs hatching out of Beanie Babies.  Creepy stuff.

Round 5: Girl Power... name that super femme fatale.  Mystery Men has got to be one of the most underrated movies of all time.  It was really a great flick.  Round 6; Fine, It's Rocket Science... a round on propulsion and space flight.  Another round that some of you liked to yell at me for.  Gah.  Relax, it's a game.  Remember Rule #1... Don't Panic!  I need to mention that I love Doctor Strangelove.  It's how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.  Round 7: Good Thing You Lettered In Band... name the musical instrument famously featured in each clip.  Clip 7 was a little tricky but I am proud to say that most of you still got it correct.  Stephanie was really excited that I had a clip from Peter and the Wolf.  That really does bring back some great memories.  Round 8: Random Knowledge!  Most of the time this is a redemption round for me.  Not sure it worked tonight.  But I love you anyway.  Joe DiMaggio is so great that he got mentioned in two songs.  Nice.

Well I ended up with a tie for third and fourth place and after a tie breaking question... Ich Bin Ein Flaming Tree took third place!  Wall of Voodoo took second.  Professors took first place through the use of a well played joker!  Each of the top three teams were seperated by one point!  Whew!  What a close game.  Can't wait to see you all next week.  Until then my quiz bunnies... I'm all about that bass, bout that bass.

You could feel the temperature drop as the quiz went on last night.  Wow.  That drizzle didn't help any at all either.  But we were warm, huddled there together on the patio.  Thanks to all of you that made it out.  Now, let's talk about the quiz.

Round 1: A Man For All Seasons... all of the answers contained the name of a season.  Bruce Springsteen is such a talented musician.  I don't even have a smart ass comment for that statement.  I truly believe it.  If you have not seen the Lion In Winter.  I highly suggest it.  We should all get together for an old movie night.  You know, just invade the patio and take over the big screen.  How much fun would that be?  I'll bring cookies!  Ummm... what was I just doing?  Oh yeah!  Round 2; Everybody Wants to Be Van Halen... you name the original title and artist for the songs being covered by hard rock bands.  Cover band rounds are always some of my favorites.  I hope they are yours too.  The cover of Britney Spears was a definite improvement.  And no... Michael Martin Murphy was not the original guy who did "Happy Trails." No matter how much you argue... it wasn't him.  It will never be him.  Roy Rogers was around way way way before that guy.  Thank you.  Round 3: Slang vs. Slang... I gave you the British slang term and you got to pick the American one that matches!  Yes I know that the team with the Brit had a bit of an advantage this round.  But in all fairness, Andrew doesn't get to contribute very much on other rounds.  So, this round got to let him shine a bit. You guys are all my muckers.  Round 4: They Call Me Descriptive Bob... a round on various famous nicknames.  More of you knew Fancy Nancy than I really thought would.  Nicely done.

Round 5: Royal Badasses... name the royalty.  Yes, Prince Adam is his name.  He-Man is who he morphs into, you know, by the power of Grayskull and all.  Princess Uni-Kitty has to be my favorite though.  The Lego Movie is so amazing.  Round 6: So Many Runways... name that city that hosts a Fashion Week.  Lake Charles does not have a fashion week.  It's also not a Pacific city.  It never surprises me that the person who wants to yell out is generally the least educated people on the patio.  I think an interesting little tidbit is that Budapest was once two seperate cities.  The cities were actually called Buda and Pest.  Seriously.  Round 7: Decades of Stuff: '87, '97', and '07... audio clues and questions.  Well, you know we have to talk about it.  This was tough for most of you.  I hate it when that happens.  But at least there were a few shining moments in there right?  Maybe?  Let's just move on.  Round 8: Random Knowledge.  You know you loved the little kids rapping back in the '90s.  The question about pilot episodes went better than expected.  And another apology to those of you that still have not read Marley and Me.

So that wraps the first quiz of the cool season.  You guys were champs.  I wish I could make you all winners.  Unfortunately, Luke's won't really give me that many gift cards. So, your top three were as follows.  The Professors took the win, followed by The Cunning Linguists and Wall of Voodoo.  Final scores were pretty tight.  I love it when that happens.  Can't wait to see you all next week.  Until then my quiz bunnies... what a wicked game to play.

  Robbi xoxo
