Kerry Carolan ()

Nice to see you!  My name is Kerry, and I am a textile designer in Jersey City.  I live in the hood with my two cats, Bruno and Bolshevik.  I spend most of my free time knitting, cooking, and watching cartoons.  My current geeky obsessions are Dr. Who and Dune.  I'm also a die hard H2G2 fan.  I'm a bit of a spazz.  Come to my house if you like Seafood, Cat hair, and utter disorganization, but come to my quiz if you like people making fools of themselves on a mic, girls making dick jokes to a room full of strangers, and getting drunk enough to think you're funny!  See you there!

First off, I'd like to say a hearty apology to Ted. Sorry, Ted! We pick on you because we like you!

With that out of the way, down to business. Last night's crowd got a little, well, out of hand. Maybe it's everyone trying to squeeze the last drops of fun out of summer, or maybe it's the half price pitchers, hey, maybe it's Maybelline, I don't know, but wow, that was nuts. Not that I'm complaining. I have fun when you guys do. Unless you think shouting out the answers is fun. That's never fun!

Shouts to the team who answered Phellopene tubes...I guess if you're gonna go that Greek, you really don't need to be too familiar with reproduction. (Did I go too far? I feel like I went too far.)

Also shouts to my favorite new team, Liquor I Barely Know Her, who provided me with much of the solid comic gold for the evening. You guys rock, and I see trivia stardom in your future!

Gin and Phonics very nearly snagged another win, and were justly really really eited about all of their right answers, as well as Judaism. Hooray Judaism! Meanwhile, We're Never On Time took fourth (alongside I Wanna F. Murray Abraham), demonstrating just how crucial showing up for the first round can be. Draft Days of Summer also gets a special mention for coming in third, despite bringing in a special guest star for the evening.

But the night one again belonged to My Left Boob!, who really used the joker and a deep appreciation for chocolate to their advantage. They may be one bulldog down, but they're still as fierce as ever!

Join us net week for what I'm sure will be just as tough a competition, just as hilarious QM jokes, and (hopefully) slightly quieter fellow quizzers.

Wow, who knew percussion instruments could be so...stimulating? Teams Lindsey Wants a Dog and Za Nown Pea did.  High Hat! High Hat! Rattlesnake! High Hat! It sounded more like an intense day at the races than a game of pub quiz tonight.  Despite the rowdiness, we all learned a new word today:  Aspidolo-nevermind, no we didn't.  That's not a real word and you can't make me!
Round 2 was a bit of a letdown for a lot of you, due to yet another case of Cat Stevens mistaken identity, and despite the fact that I gave you all at least one answer (if you were, you know, paying attention.)
The pizza round went significantly better, as expected, although we almost came to fisticuffs over the definition of the set of cheeses which contains American.  Mathemagicians:  Let's just assume the cheese is a sphere.
Well, I better wrap up the blog now, because, you know, winter is coming, and I'm a dragonborn? And, uhh...yeah.
So it was a close game, despite the wopping lead taken by I Wanna F Murray Abraham, with Macarena Party Bus, Just Blaze, Za Nown Pea, Ginger & Co, and Lindsey wants a Dog all putting up a strong fight for 2-4 places.  Better luck next time, guys!
See you all Next Tuesday!

Chris (Mavrick)

So my name is Mavrick and yes, I know... you're Goose.

Originally from the Garbage State of NJ, I've wandered the south for the last 7 years. Currently, the city of sin is home, but I will always enjoy messing with Texas and going to Florida beaches to drop deuces. A romantic date would involve Star Trek, 4Loko and Karaoke... maybe a chinese buffet. A former pro wrestler, I also give grappling instruction and free headbutts.

I look up to people like Peter Steele, Fox Mulder and Cletus Kasady. I've been told I play a decent Joker as well as a good Gambit. My female alter-ego Sasha LaBia wears size 16 heels and is a fan of hooks.

Other keywords: trans-trektual, heel, sarcasm, smoking, drinking, spicy, well tequila, scars, trenchcoats, ghostbusters, they live, Laugh-in.

Live Long and Prosper, y'all. See you at the quiz!

Just Once... like my guest apparence at the Hamilton Inn tonight. While most of us were mourning the loss of Robin Williams yesterday, we managed to get a few laughs in at tonights quiz. That's more than we can say for that gem of a movie, Death to Smoochy. That movie was worse than your answers to round 2...

Round 1 began with a quick re-cap of recent stuff:
Apparently the only famous racing driver that you have ever heard of is Jeff Gordon. However, if you are team I Blew My Dad, you just confused the right answer with the only recognizable NASCAR racer, giving us a shameful answer of Jeff Stewart. Not only did most teams not know about racing, apparently Bobby Fisher is the only professional chess player that ever existed... JABRONIS! What's worse is that y'all knew Kim Kardashian will appear in her own book of selfies but you didn't know Man On Wire was filmed depicting the World Trade Center!!!! Y'all live right the fuck next door... Get out more! Even the drunks on the streets of New Orleans knew that. Round 2 was a round on songs that Star-Lord himself would rock out to in Guardians of the Galaxy. Well, apparently, most of you don't watch TV much because song number 4, Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede was in the DAMN TRAILER. But thank you to Bangarang and the Plaid Lads for giving me "More Than A Feeling." These two great teams who came (unwillingly) together and were asked to separate in order to meet the rules of the quiz did so willingly. However, I can tell y'all hang out often for giving me the SAME WRONG ANSWER. Maybe y'all should be more like Abu Dhabi Comeback Club for their epic perfect score during the round. Friends? Also, I Blew My Dad, thank you for putting the Artist performing "Spirit in the Sky" as Norman "Applebaum" instead of Norman Greenbaum. Those tricky name suffixes... I apologize to the Jews. Who woulda thought "Weird Al" and Pope Francis had any thing in common? Well... they don't. So we threw 8 quotes at you in Round 3, hoping you could distinguish the difference between their philosophies. None of you really shit the bed on that round, but thank you to everyone for thinking "Weird Al"'s only album was Eat It
Round 4 was a round on funerals and sketch comedy. Thank you Jean Valjean and the Cohorts for not knowing the difference between round 4 and the visual round. Made my life easier when I didn't have an extra round 5 to grade. You guys did actually rock the correct round 4 knowing that HBO's Mr. Show featured a drugtastic H.R Pufnstuf parody. Sorry Lo-RussEl Guapo and Just BlazeFlight of the Concords is not the only funny show on HBO. Maybe I could Just Blaze with y'all and get the wrong answers but my girlfriend smoked all mine... At least she would have known that the Latin word for rest gives us the name "requiem" for a Catholic mass of the dead. "Muerte" is Spanish, team Deniers... learn your Romance languages.

Round 5 brought us back to our childhood, reminding us of those games we used to play that are now collecting dust... right up the stairs in our parents' attic. I only have one thing to say about this round to Senor El Guapo. The fact that you got 7/8 by confusing D&D with Tri-Ominos, I have learned two things about you: First, you are at least over the age of 35. Second: you need to get out more... Nah, yer ok. You got way more than one wrong during that round. At least you did better than Old Barton's Skin Croissant who thinks "Cherries" would ever be an acceptable answer. Virgins, I love 'em. I applaud my quizzers for knowing a LOT about random candies in round 6... oh wait, no I don't. Round 6 brought the record lowest answers of the night. Maybe if team Just Blaze wasn't blazed they would know the difference between "Necco Wafers" and"Becco" wafers. Ha! Good try at sounding it out. No team could top the unstoppable I Want to F Murray Abraham who earned 7/8 points this round. Not only did they know more than you, but when they didn't know who played the heterosexual teacher Cluck Noblet in Strangers with Candy, they wrote Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris is always an acceptable answer. Except this time.

We took a short break, JC Spice winning the email bonus showdown. Too bad wining the email bonus didn't help your score in round 7 (A round on movies wrtten, directed and staring the same guy). Don't worry, you weren't the only team to think that The Town was really Good Will Hunting. Not as bad as Aaron Burrrrosif thinking that Garden State was Trainspotting. It's on your own friggin' license plate! Maybe you just didn't hear the clip? Perhaps that's the same reason ya'll needed 7 repeats a round. Don't worry... I like to talk over Quiz Masters, too. What do we know? Round 8 was something completely out of the ordinary tonight. A round so out there, Weird Al can't even make a parody of it...RANDOM KNOWLEDGE. It was an exceptionally tough round but I did learn a few things about you. First: the only Quinten Tarantino movie that you have ever heard of is Kill Bill and the only city in New Zealand you have heard of is Auckland. Thank you to I Blew My Dad for being the only team that knew "Lew Zealand" was the Muppet who throws fish that aren't Swedish. I also learned that everyone is pretty okay at math knowing that 4 to the fourth power is 256, except team Bangarang who thinks its 1024. Where are your TI Calculators now? Oh wait, they probably don't have those at the really liberal arts college that you went to. Calculators are too mainstream... Right?

In the End, Team Abu Dhabi Comeback Club would steal first by 11 points. COMING in 2nd was I Blew My Dad (who also wins team name of the night). Any team who can make me laugh out loud can be a part of my will. Lastly, third place would go to I Want to F Murray Abraham. Maybe your dream will come true if you actually win next week. In the meantime, I would like to take this time to do the following: buy a glowstick, pour it on a sardine, dunk it into a shot of chatreuse... and mess with Texas while I consume said stuff. What's your mom doing later?
